OverviewBeijing is almost like a state in China, no governing bodies between it and the national government. It is one of four such "state-cities" in China, called shi or municipalities. Beijing is communist because that is the form of government in China.

Corruption & DiscontentThe Chinese government is corrupt and there is severe discontent throughout the country. Citizens often protest in Beijing because it is the nations capital. Thousands of people travel to Beijing every year and protest various issues such as the people in the video at left who are protesting human rights violations.

OrganizationIn China there are four municipalities that have the same powers as provinces. Beijing is one of these four municipalities or "shi". Beijing has mayors, vice mayors and representatives in the National People's Congress. Beijing being the capital of China means many important buildings are located in Beijing such as the National People's Congress.
