Activities and Land UseBeijing is a large exporter, invested in by many countries abroad. Economic collapse in 2009 worldwide initially hurt China, but it rebounded. In 2012 economic crisis in Europe hurt China's economy again, but China has mostly recovered. China is a member of the world trade organization. Beijing has been asked by the international community to raise the value of the renminbi, which would slow probably exports since goods would be more expensive. China uses a lot of fossil fuels because of all its factories, and pollution is a huge problem. China has many people employed in agriculture but factory and city work is becoming more common. Beijing has a moderate agricultural economy (20% of the workforce is agricultural) as well as a developing manufacturing economy. The per capita income in Beijing is $1,759.
